About Us

Many of you may have opened this site and thought “Oh great, another blog!” Undoubtedly, blogging has taken the internet by storm in recent years. Blogs are popping up everywhere. Initially they were personal writing spaces. Now they’ve become primary sources of information for the masses. Worldwide it’s become a phenomenon and even a force brings instant attention to any issue. And yes, this is another one.

So why do you need to read this one?

The reason you need to read this is that it will help map the evolution and set the parameters of the emerging Muslim American culture.

That means no rants, no fluff, and no useless drivel. You will find a new and fresh discourse on a myriad of social, political, religious, economic, cultural, and other issues affecting the Muslim community in North America, especially in the United States. Our writers will be of various backgrounds all intimately acclimated to life in the West and active in the Muslim community, many born and/or raised in the U.S.

Some of what will be written, examined, and analyzed will be unorthodox, uncanny, and even controversial. We’re going to push the envelope and ask thought provoking questions while exploring equally thought provoking ideas. We may be wrong, we may be right, or we may just be taking up space on a page. The bottom line - we’re going to talk about what’s important to you.

As one of our American Muslim scholars, Dr. Sherman Jackson, once said “Indigenization of Islam in America is a process”. It cannot and will not happen overnight but what we know for sure is that we’re not where we need to be right now as a community. Thus, our goal at MusimThought.com is to begin traversing that path and do so without surrendering our Islamic belief and values.

By helping to stimulate ideas and discussion on this issue, we hope that this site will serve as a catalyst in this critical time facing the Muslim community. Much of the misnomers and misconceptions non-Muslims have about Islam is often perpetuated by foreign influences and lack of a unique Muslim American culture. Our mission is to help change that one day at a time.

We look forward to your comments on the site. Please sit back, relax, and enjoy.

And always feel free to let us know what we can do to improve.

    Salaams,

Will the writers post as anonymous individuals or name themselves? Although I understand the need for anonymity, I think it’s only fair that writers with sharp ideas identify themselves so that a substantive conversation can happen with real people, rather than from afar or sitting across from a virtual screen of IP address identities.

And I understand that there are some humble individuals in our communities who don’t want their identities to overshadow their ideas, but again, I do hope we can find out who is who. I am the online editor for Islamica Magazine and we hope to discover new writers through blogs so it would be nice to know who is writing what.

    God bless.
